History of the P.A.L.
Former Chief James Russo of the Hempstead Village Police Department designated now retired Police Officer Albert Balsamo to form and be the Director of the Police Activities League. This designation was made with the approval of former Mayor James Garner, and the Village Board of Trustees, in January of 1990. Since this time, the PAL has served over 3500 youth of this Village and surrounding communities. PAL has designated November 12th as Mayor Garner's Day in honor of having such great insight to support the youth of this Village.
Our PAL has been one of the leading organizations in the Village of Hempstead for over 18 years, bridging the gap between the community and the police.
The PAL offers many activities from athletics to educational and community service. Over the years youth from ages 5-18 have been involved in homework assistance, track, hockey clinics, basketball, step dance, cheer-leading, karate, kung fu, toy drives, golf, bowling, indoor floor hockey, forensics, various fundraisers, outreach programs, computer labs, travel basketball, girl scouts, food drives, to just name a few. Our PAL is committed to fostering good relations within the community.
We would like to also thank the Community Development Agency for their continued support each year.
