OH JUST SAY IT.......... WOOSA
The Hempstead PAL is a Not-For-Profit Organization that has been in operation now for over 19 years to date. We depend solely on the kindness of our sponsors, fundraising methods and donations.
PAL does not own a gymnasium or any athletic facility. So for over 20 years PAL has used Kennedy Memorial Park (K.P.) as its home. Over the years PAL has run events like karate, girls lacrosse, basketball clinics, and basketball tournaments at the Village owned facility. We have been treated very well, as we also respect the park rules and regulations. Such as making sure our request to use the facility is submitted in a timely fashion. Over the years many new organizations are using K.P. and it has become much harder to use the gym on more than one day. Some 20 years ago it was granted that Friday nights are PAL nights and that is perfect. However, when we run tournaments we need a second day and that's when it gets a little rough with all of the other groups.
We wanted to just make a point to those that read our site. PAL has always allowed outside youth that live within the surrounding communities to participate in our events. At no time have we turned away any youth. However, at any given time you may check our rosters and you will find that the Hempstead PAL is about giving back to the youth of this community and serving those who pay taxes in Hempstead. You will find that over 90% of those that have registered are Hempstead residents. So all of this to say, that when we are using the Hempstead facilities we are servicing the youth of the Village of Hempstead. There are other organizations that do not follow this practice.
Let me also state, Village Trustee Don Ryan who is also a life long resident here in Hempstead has pushed to make sure that the PAL continues this practice and "HEY", it makes sense to do so.
I believe my point has been made...did you know Hempstead used to be the HUB of Long Island? We were even talked about in the novel "The great Gatsby"
With that said- Thank you to Arthur Morrison, and Ruth Roberson for your outstanding assistance at K.P. and for caring about the youth, our future. I couldn't do it without you, the PAL Board and my volunteers.

P.S. I almost forgot one more point...is that another Hempstead facility that can be turned around into an outside basketball court or even a skate park will do.
